He was such a familiar face/sight for the 20 years he partnered John Letts to cover/escort/interview winners back to scale during Melbourne's classic meets, especially the Melbourne Cup, that it was quite sad to hear that the dear old boy has passed away from a bout of colic. He was 25. John Letts himself is battling cancer.
A beautiful natured horse, he and Letts made a terrific duo. You could always count on them each time the racing carnival rocked round. Last year was the first time neither participated in the Cup Carnival. I recall Banjo took a real liking to Black Caviar and would preen and nuzzle in close to her as Letts interviewed Luke Nolen. So cute.
RIP Banjo.
