Could say this about many horses, I guess, but Ogygian should have left a much larger mark than he did.  After missing the 1986 Triple Crown races because his 3 year old campaign was delayed by injury, as I remember he would have been a heavy favorite in the 1986 Travers, but was scratched when the track came up sloppy (Wise Times won).  He was kind of the story of the 1986 Saratoga meet - without ever actually running - as he was hyped up all meet long as a superhorse that the Saratoga crowd would never get to actually see, as he was scratched by trainer Jan Nerud from both the Jim Dandy and the Travers because of sloppy tracks.


Barbara Livingston's twitter feed has a remarkable photo of Ogygian as a retiree at Old Friends - it almost looks like a painting.
